Why some people need to get off social media & a linkup

Dress/Jumper:  Shein // Tshirt:  No brand // Shoes:  Old Navy // Socks:  Berkshire Legs

DISCLAIMER:  This post may offend some people, and I don’t care.  This isn’t directed towards any one person, it’s towards the general public on the interwebs.

This post has been a long time coming!  I honestly miss the days where MySpace was a thing, and the most difficult decision was picking your top 8 and learning how to do basic HTML, not deciding whether or not you want to post something or your opinion because you don’t exactly feel like starting a fight, or getting attacked by a keyboard warrior.  Over the last few years, I’ve seen Facebook evolve into a really shitty place.  I’ve watched people who were once friends, unfriend each other, both online and in reality, because they didn’t like what the other one said.  I personally don’t post anything about politics or religion, or anything that’s too controversial on Facebook.  I’d rather save myself the drama.  I post a lot of videos of dogs, food, and then some memes.  I don’t get involved with fights on Facebook (I can count on one hand how many I have gotten into and it’s only because my words were misconstrued), and very rarely do I actually post something in a rant.

I’ve seen the most ridiculous Twitter threads, and how everyone gets so offended by EVERY. SINGLE. THING.  I can smile at someone and they would get offended.  Then on the other hand I can have resting bitch face and that same exact person would still get offended.  Get over your damn self.  We are banning things at schools and life in general because something goes viral on the internet.  People “check in” at a hospital and then when someone comments and asks “omg are you ok?!” it’s the typical “I don’t want to talk about it.”  Then, um, why are you telling the world that you’re in a hospital?  We see these people living the absolute best life on Instagram, meanwhile in real life some of those people aren’t really enjoying their life because they are constantly posting about their “amazing” life.  Don’t get me wrong, some of these people really are living in the moment and take some pictures along the way, but when I go out now, everyone is so mesmerized by their phone and how many likes they get.  I go to the mall and see kids together and they are all on their phones.  I see selfie sticks every where.

People don’t know how to communicate anymore in person.  Things that someone says online is something that, more times than not, they won’t say to someone’s face.  You get these internet trolls who just like to bash on other people.  They will turn every post into something about politics or something similar.  You can post a scene from Spongebob and someone would ruin the mood haha.  No one likes a Debbie Downer.  Things like body shaming have come into play because you get made fun of it you’re too thin, too fat, too muscular, not muscular enough, too short, too tall, you have big boobs, you don’t have big boobs, you put on makeup (take her swimming on the first date type of stuff), you don’t put on makeup, and the list goes on.

What in the actual f*** people?!

Why is it that group of people (let’s use politics for example) can say whatever they want online, but another group can’t voice their opinion because it’s “wrong.”  Why have we become a society of believing everything we see on the internet/social media?  Does no one do their own research anymore to get the true story?  Remember the game of telephone?  That’s basically what the media does, then it gets spread all over social media.  I can’t stand when someone asks “what’s the credible source?” and that person doesn’t have an answer because their credible source was an article they came across on Facebook.  I’m so sick and tired of seeing people fight about guns, Trump, cops, etc.  Please, get off Facebook for a little bit.  It’s bad enough that I actually see things happening in real life, I go to Facebook for cute videos of dogs, or organizations rescuing animals.  I don’t want your stupid post clogging up my feed.  I just want to see all the doggos haha.

MLM’s have taken over Facebook which at first I didn’t mind because girrrrrl, you’re doin’ the damn thang.  However, if we were never friends in high school and you actually made fun of me, but request to be my friend so that you can try and sell me this amazing night cream you’ve been using, please just stop.  STAHP IT!  I don’t mind seeing people post about their progress and how something has been working for them but please, if I liked your picture, don’t automatically take that as an opportunity to sell me something.  I’ve done two MLM’s before, and I know that this is part of it, but when I have multiple people contacting me about the same thing, it gets really annoying.  Especially when you’ve switched between 3/4 MLM’s in less than 6 months.  I didn’t want your night cream, I don’t want your wraps, and I don’t want your magic pills.  I’m guilty of this too, because when I was doing Mary Kay and Team Beach Body they all told me to basically spam people’s inboxes, and I just couldn’t do it.  If someone said no thank you, I didn’t take it as a maybe I’ll try again in two days.  That’s why I didn’t last in MLM’s because I just couldn’t be annoying.

If you don’t like something that someone posted, just keep scrolling, but also to the people who say “get off my post,” you do realize that you posted this to the public, right?  It’s like saying your opinion in person and when someone shares their opinion you say talk to the hand cause the face don’t wanna listen.  Insert eye roll here.

Also, here’s a concept that a lot of people don’t realize; YOU CAN HAVE AN OPPOSING VIEW AND STILL DISCUSS IT LIKE ADULTS!  Wow, I cannot believe I’m even having to type that out.  Just because someone agrees with more liberal, or conservative views, doesn’t mean you two can’t be friends.  There are things that I agree and don’t agree with from all sides.  I also know how to speak and listen like a normal person.  To be completely honest, I don’t trust the government.  I was brought up hearing stories about what my parent’s home country was like when it was under communistic rule and from all of those stories, I developed the mind set to NEVER trust the government. Do you think the government would save you if there was an apocalypse?  The military might try and save people, but all of those old people in Washington, yea, they wouldn’t even think twice to help you.  You’re on your own at that point.

Did you also know that being the grammar police doesn’t make you better than anyone?  I know that it bugs some people, but if you were talking to someone in person, would you be able to see which their, they’re, or there, they were using?  How about the response “maybe when you can spell correctly I’ll listen to you.”  -_- Seriously?  Are we 5?  So just because someone can’t spell something or maybe even auto correct changed the word fuck to duck, they can’t have your attention?  LOL

Bottom line is, I think there are more than a handful of people who need to take a break from social media and go enjoy life a little bit.  Can we just go back to actually getting along and not making everything about politics or something controversial?  If you truly want to make a difference, go out and do something about it.  Sitting on your couch and aimlessly scrolling and fighting with people on social media isn’t going to change anything, besides make you look childish.

Thanks for this post! I’ve been backing way off of social media lately. I just can’t it. I know how you feel and that’s why I’m not on there all the time anymore. It’s actually just really sad and I want to try and connect with people face to face, not screen to screen. It is hard because I’m a blogger, but for me I’m a human and a real friend first and then blogging takes a back seat.

A great piece of writing – I enjoyed it a lot. I’ve been really lucky on my social media and haven’t had any negativity. If I feel the need to get my head out of my phone I take to day off it – my happiness is more important. Great conversation xx

Thank you! And yes, I agree, your own happiness is so much more important than being stuck in your phone.

I post on social media for my blog, but then I’ll go on Facebook to connect with family and see memes or animal videos because there are some people out there doing amazing things, but then I get bombarded with the negative posts and I’m just like, ok time for me to go lol

It’s funny how people can get into such an uproar over the littlest things. I think the hardest part about social media and such is you don’t get the human interaction. So when I say something, you can’t see that I’m actually smiling and meaning it in a good way.
We do need to get out and about way more!! It’s life!!

Oh my goodness, a thousand times YES. I love social media. Hell, it’s what I do for real life, but I hate inauthentic mumbo jumbo, people who are offended by ALL THE THINGS and, frankly, bullsh*t. This post is everything – and I thank you for posting something that I’m sure we’ve all thought <3

Haha, thank you! I know so many people who have thought the same thing, I have been so annoyed by it recently I just had to get it all out there haha.

I am not a big fan of social media. I take time away as well, and just rest from it all. I enjoy visiting blogs, reading about people and don’t see the point to much of it. I just do what i can !
    Enjoy your day!

Ha, I feel like social media has taken the place of direct mail, TV, and however else we used to get ads—it’s like people are always SHOUTING at each other. Too much noise. I stick with Instagram. Pretty pictures for the win!

really love this post and so very spot on. Communication and personal contact has taken a back seat to everything. Plus why can so many people not seem to put their phones down anywhere. They just stop randomly and start texting not even talking. It is a crazy world we have created

I agree with so much of what you said!!! Honestly if I were not a blogger, I would not be on social media at all – I only began using it after I started a blog! So much of what is out there simply is not real nor does it offer any genuine benefit/value when it comes to what really should matter in life.
