Alright y’all, I’m obsessed with Netflix. Well, I have been, but it’s become a bigger obsession lately. For today’s post I want to talk about my top favorites on Netflix that are good for binge watching. Some of these I’m sure some/most people have seen already, but in case you haven’t and are looking for something to watch here’s my list, it’s not in any particular order!
Blacklist
I’m currently watching this. So please, no spoilers! This is about a regular every day woman, Elizabeth Keen, who’s married and is a really good profiler. All of the sudden the FBI’s most wanted criminal Raymond Reddington, surrenders himself and says that he will provide them with a Blacklist of criminals (some they’ve never even heard of) to take down, but he will only do it if Elizabeth speaks with him. Of course this raises eyebrows because what is Reddington’s tie to Elizabeth? I’m in season 4 and I still don’t know but I have a feeling he’s her dad. It’s super action packed, has some romance (not much), and it’s just so interesting. The characters are amazing and Reddington is definitely my favorite.
Jessica Jones
Does a badass female with super powers taking on NYC tickle your fancy? Then this is the show for you. It’s about Jessica Jones, who doesn’t really know her past, but what she does know is she has super strength, a stalker who controls minds, and she was adopted by a momager with a Hannah Montana type of daughter. She’s a private investigator who likes to drink just a bit to much and this show just unravels and the suspense is insane. Jessica Jones is part of Marvel, and it’s just so badass. In the second season it goes more into her past which is extremely interesting.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
If you’re looking for a quirky comedy, this is for you. This is about Kimmy Schmidt who was kidnapped with a few other people and kept in a bunker until she was an adult. Her and her “roommates” were finally saved and her kidnapper (the Reverend) was captured. They all go on to live their own lives and Kimmy decides to move to NYC. She is a super naive but an adorable adult woman. She graduates high school and gets her GED. She even attempts to go to college. She loves her purple Kimmy backpack, and her clothing choices are mixed with a lot of children’s fashion. She works as a nanny/assistant and then her life just unravels after that.
Stranger Things
If you haven’t heard of Stranger Things, then you live under a rock. Stranger Things is huge! I heard of it and always wanted to watch it, but I just never had the time to binge watch. Basically it’s a bunch of younger kids (Dustin is my spirit character) who like to hang out and one of them is going home on his own and somehow just disappears. Everyone is looking for him and they bump into a girl who’s entire head is shaved and when they ask her, her name, she says Eleven. She is from a government facility that tests on her because she has powers. She’s the perfect strong female character for teenage girls. This is when the series starts and they are on the hunt for their friend. They learn about the upside down and many other things. I recommend watching a few episodes to get into it. The first one is kind of slow.
Gotham
One word, Batman. This is the story of how Batman became Batman. It shows children who evolve into their adult selves, as Batman, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and the Joker. The Riddler and Penguin are already adults at this time. I love how they made it so dark and dreary and they show the story from the beginning. I can’t wait for the next season!
Aggretsuko
This is a Japanese anime. It’s about Aggretsuko (a really adorable cartoon) who is a pushover at work, but at night she goes to this karaoke place and sings death metal. This is how she lets off a little steam. It’s actually very accurate to office life and how you build up so much emotion that sometimes singing death metal is the best solution haha.
Wild Wild Country
This is a documentary series based on a true story. It’s about a group, which isn’t necessarily religious, but kind of is. I personally think it was more of a cult. They are from India, and decide to reside in America, Oregon to be exact. The leader is trying to have create his version of Utopia. “This docuseries chronicles the conflict, which leads to the first bioterror attack in the United States and a massive case of illegal wiretapping. It is a pivotal, but largely forgotten, time in American cultural history that tested the country’s tolerance for the separation of church and state. Brothers Mark and Jay Duplass serve as executive producers on the series.” (www.google.com) Basically it’s interesting to see once people unite, they are able to overtake almost an entire state.
6 Balloons
Ok, so this is a movie, and it’s a really tough thing to watch, especially if substance abuse and overdose is part of your life, whether it’s yourself or a loved one. I’ve lost quite a few people to overdose and have also had addicts in my life who have become sober and are on their road to recovery, or have been on their road to recovery. This is a battle I don’t wish on anyone. It’s easy for people to judge and say “well they brought it on themselves.” While this may be true, you do realize that pain killers are addicting, and your doctor prescribes them? Do you know how many people take pain killers and they aren’t weened off of them properly which leads a lot of people to turn to the streets. The painkillers become too expensive so they turn to heroin. Watching a loved one go from normal to an addict is the worst thing you can ever imagine. Going to a funeral and watching your friend’s mother cry because she couldn’t hold her son one last time is the worst thing to see. This movie shows how a sister is so concerned over her brother, but she’s an enabler which causes him to remain an addict. It’s a really rough movie to watch but it’s a very good depiction of addiction.
Well, that’s all I have for now. These are my top favorites on Netflix. I’ll probably do another review later on with more shows but I’m really wanting to finish Blacklist at the moment. What do you watch on Netflix?
xoxo Monica

The movie seems quite depressing – addiction is a terrible thing. I loved Stranger Things and Jessica Jones. I got bored of the blaclist but the rest I have to still check.
