Staying Hydrated and Reflecting on this Past Year

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and The Coca-Cola Company. All opinions are mine alone. #HydrateYourDay #CollectiveBias

Hey Y’all!  As you know (if you’ve been reading my blog this week) tomorrow is my birthday.  Every year I like to reflect on what the past year looked like and what I’d like to do better.  One of the things I focus on is my health.  I look back to see how I did and I am going to be honest, I was the healthiest two years ago.  I was in the best shape of my life.  This past year I tried my best, but that seizure in November kind of scared me a bit and I had to take a step back for a second and reevaluate my life.  I did the Keto diet and I did it a few times.  I must say, I felt so great once I got past that nasty thing known as the keto flu.  Unfortunately, even though it made me feel great (brain wise) it wasn’t a diet that I could stick to because of the restrictions and all of the time that went into it.  Anyway, there are quite a few things I look to accomplish health wise within this next year of my life.  Here is what I would like to try or do differently.

POWERADE ZERO™ Mixed Berry 32 oz found at Target.

smartwater® found at Target.

Drink More Water.

I used to be the queen of drinking water.  I’d drink a gallon+ daily.  My Physical Therapist at the time (I was in a car accident) told me she was highly impressed with my percentage of water in my body, which was 85%.  She said they are always having to tell people to drink more water but my body was perfect.  I would like to get back to that because water did help me, believe it or not.  It was one of the ways I started getting my health back on track.  I started drinking water, and I just felt better.  I felt healthier.  In the beginning I felt super bloated, but that went away as my body got used to the water intake.  I’ve been starting to drink more water recently which is why I turned to smartwater®.  It’s super easy because it’s right at the checkout line at Target, so when I’m buying unnecessary things there, I try to buy a water as well.  This is the time where I stop and think about purchasing one more thing that is actually a necessity, not something that I really don’t need.  Many people don’t drink the daily recommended amount of liquids in a day. Mayo Clinic recommends we consume 6.3 cups a day, however the average consumed is 2.5 cups. Coca-Cola wants to continue to build awareness of the great brands that they offer to hydrate consumers.

This also brings me to another product that I’ve been drinking in case I needed something to quench my thirst and that has a little more spunk than water.  POWERADE ZERO™ Mixed Berry 32 oz found at Target.

Don’t be too diet obsessed (although I find enjoyment in testing out new diets).

Now, I don’t just go on diets to lose weight, I try different fad diets for fun.  Yes, you heard me right, I try diets for fun.  It’s enjoyable to me.  However, I would like to eventually not be so obsessed with losing weight and staying a specific size.  Unfortunately with my age getting higher, I have noticed my metabolism slowing down more and more.  It’s not what it used to be, that’s for sure.

Don’t be afraid of a cheat day.

When I’m not dieting I have no problem eating ice cream or pizza.  However, when I’m dieting I’m terrified of having a cheat day because I’m afraid that I’ll just go back to not caring and eating whatever I want.  When I go on a diet I’m really strict with myself.

Be more comfortable with my body.

I would like to get to a point where I’m happy with my body.  Even when I was at my healthiest two years ago, I still wasn’t 100% comfortable.  I always wanted to be thinner and more fit.  It was getting a little excessive.  I want to one day be 100% happy with whatever body I’m in.  No matter how small or big I am.

Be more active.

Don’t go crazy working out every single day multiple times a day like you used to, but walk more.  Take the dogs for a walk or a hike.  My workout routine at one point was really intense and I never gave my body a rest.  I don’t want to go back to that, but I do want to be more active.  I feel like hiking with my dogs would actually be fun if they could both make it since Lilly the puggle is getting a little old.

Take time to meditate.

I have this problem of getting super overwhelmed and not taking time to just sit down and take a breathe.  I have to learn to not sweat the small stuff because I sweat anything; big, small, you name it.  Because of my epilepsy, I have to take it slower and I cannot stress as much as I did this past year.  Thankfully my fiance has been really good at getting me to calm down, but it’s still hard sometimes.

Take a day off to just relax.

I. NEVER. STOP. MOVING.  Seriously, if I’m not working, I’m blogging.  If I’m not blogging, I’m working.  If I’m not doing either of those two things, I’m doing something else.

Always remember, you only have one body, treat it like a temple.

This is something that I have been really following over the past few years.  Knowing that you only have one body and that it needs to be treated right is the best thing!
