I hope y’all aren’t getting sick of my Who Wore it Better posts with my mom, but we are bringing another one to you today! I love doing these posts with my mom. I feel like she enjoys taking these type of blogging outfit photos more than just by herself. I feel like she is more comfortable in front of the camera when I’m with her. Especially when my dad is taking our photos because we tend to goof around a little more, and I love getting candid shots of us laughing, because that is the perfect depiction of our mother daughter relationship.
I wanted to take a little time today to write a letter to my mom. I know that a lot of you have commented about how obvious it is that I’m very proud of my parents and how much my relationship with my mom means to me, but I really don’t think I will ever be able to put into words how much my family means to me. So, anyway, here goes an attempt.
Dear Mamuś,
You have been my rock from a very young age. You were there for me for every single heart break, whether it was something as small as a stupid high school break up, or something as major as me being diagnosed with epilepsy. I feel like when I was diagnosed, it wasn’t just me that was diagnosed, but it was you and daddy too. I know that was an extremely tough time on everyone, especially you. You saw your child going through something that you wish you could’ve taken away, but you couldn’t. No matter what daddy says, the bond between a mother and child is always different.
You made the ultimate sacrifice when you came to this country with daddy. You left everything that you had known to come to a country with only $10 in your pocket, no job, not knowing the language, and knowing that things would never be the same.
You then made your second ultimate sacrifice when you and daddy decided that you would stay home with Max and me when we were born. You gave up all of your hopes and dreams to make sure both of us were constantly surrounded by your love, and of course your delicious home cooked meals.
You were there for me when I was made fun of on the playground. We had come back from Poland after 3 months and I had completely forgotten how to speak English and was made fun of when I asked those girls to come play with me and the words just didn’t come out right. After being made fun of for being Polish all of the years following that incident, I didn’t want to be Polish anymore. I can’t imagine how much that hurt you and daddy. Then you guys shipped me off to Poland in 8th grade, and I became proud of my culture and heritage again.
You and daddy were there for every single recital, every single soccer game, and every single concert/play at school. I was one of the lucky ones who’s parents were so involved. I know that sometimes I resented you and daddy for sheltering me so much, but at the end of the day, I consider myself lucky. Some kids never see their parents, or only have one parent.
When I went to college for not just one, but two degrees, I could see how proud you were. Your eyes were glowing. Your first born had graduated college twice. All of those struggles of coming to this country had paid off.
I know that I haven’t been the easiest child (I rebelled a lot), but I hope that I have made you extremely proud, and I hope that you see how proud I am of you. I’m proud of how far you’ve come. When I look at you, I see strength, dedication, love, commitment, and I could honestly keep going, but those are the main ones. You taught me to be independent. You taught me to be kind. You taught me how to take care of myself. You raised me with morals and values. I will never be able to repay you for everything you have done for me. I will also never be able to put into words EXACTLY how much you mean to me.
Love always,
Your favorite daughter, Misia
xoxo Monica

Aww, I’m sorry I made that happen haha! Yes, I’m definitely surrounded by a lot of love, I was very fortunate enough to have the parents that I have. They were strict with me with certain things, but I know they were only looking out for my best interest.

This is very touching, Monica. It’s so special that you were able to articulate your feelings and a little of what your mom/parents have gone through. Speaking as a mom, I would say it’s not that we’ve given up our hopes and dreams, but they change and expand. Hugs to you!
