Why am I anti MLM and not anti Hun?
Recently I released a video on my Youtube channel (it’ll be at the end of this post) regarding why I’m anti MLM and not anti Hun(bot). I’m sure some people were really confused as to why I would make such a statement, but there is a difference between the two. I may have a different opinion, bias even, because I’m an ex hunbot. I really truly thought that I was helping people when I was in Beachbody.
It wasn’t until I left the MLM that I realized just how indoctrinated I was. Facebook memories reminds me of that all the time. There was so much cognitive dissonance, that it’s alarming. When you’re in it, your critical thinking escapes you. If I knew what I know now I would have never joined. However, at the same time, I’m glad I learned from my mistakes because quite frankly, I don’t know if I would take the cult comparisons seriously.
Anti MLM vs. Anti Hun
In the last several months, I’ve seen a shift in the anti MLM community, where now people are becoming more anti Hun than anything else. I understand there are bad apples in every industry, and a lot of them are in MLM, but did you ever stop to think that some of these women are so brainwashed to think the way they do? If you are anti Hun, you’re victim blaming. MLM reps are victims of this sorry excuse for a business model. What I mean by anti Hun is the people who will stop at nothing to go after these reps with personal attacks.
Don’t get me wrong, the memes are hilarious, however when you start attacking someone’s looks or even character is when I don’t want to be associated with that. If the rep is saying something wrong or bad, educate them. Don’t automatically attack them, because they will get defensive and feed you the narrative they were told to stick by to defend themselves (ask me how I know). Some of these reps aren’t legitimate scammers, they are people who really think they can make money from this by “just working hard.” However, maybe I am too nice for my own good, and maybe I’m not “savage” enough. And to be honest, that’s ok, I’d rather educate than bully. There is also another great video on Youtube by The Antibot which is 4 things to stop saying to MLMers, which in my opinion is the most accurate thing I’ve ever heard.
Quick Disclaimer before my words get misconstrued:
Now, just as a disclaimer, I have thought this way ever since I became anti MLM. I am not condoning or defending their current behavior with shilling their products and recruitment during this pandemic. However, I also don’t think that being counterproductive and attacking the reps instead of reporting them to the FTC is right. At that point you are just using what they are doing as an excuse to be a jerk for lack of a better word. I also truly do think that some of these reps ACTUALLY think they are helping people. Are there ones that are actively scamming people and don’t care? Absolutely, but not ALL of them are doing that. Right now is the perfect time for the anti MLM community to educate these reps as to why what they are doing is wrong, and the best way to help them get out of the MLM before they lose more money.
Putting myself back in hun mode
With this recent shift, I decided to go back into hunbot Monica mode. If I would have seen what I’ve been seeing recently and I was still in MLM, I would honestly think these people were bullies, and wouldn’t want to leave my MLM for such a community of straight up bullies. I would be afraid of being ridiculed by a community that says they are against the structure. I would be afraid to reach out to some of these people who claim to be anti MLM at the thought of them possibly being rude instead of helping me get out of the MLM. Especially because at the time (and I’ve made a video about this before too), I had a sisterhood. I had a group of women surrounding me who I honestly thought were 100% my friends. Although it was all fake, back then, I would have stayed. At least they were being nice to me, even if it wasn’t a real friendship. Hun Monica didn’t see the fake sisterhood until she left.
Thankfully, in my comments section on that video, most people agreed with me, and there were also a few who disagreed. Which is fine, I don’t expect, nor do I want everyone to just agree with me, but I don’t think I articulated my thoughts properly in my video. That’s why I’m trying to collect my thoughts better within this post.
Don’t victim blame
Just remember, if you’re anti Hun, you’re victim blaming. Some of these women were preyed upon during one of the most vulnerable times in their life. How are they supposed to leave this predatory business structure if the anti MLM community is made to look like mean girls? Now I know why people have accused me of bullying. This is one of the reasons why I’ve been introducing other passions of mine on my channel, because I’ve become exhausted of trying to stick up for the victims when people still aren’t listening or taking things I say out of context. I’m an anti MLM advocate, not a bully.
