For this DIY project if you’re a guy I would definitely avoid the content of this post because it touches base with a few female issues.
Ok, so you will never guess what I made this DIY project out of; unused period pads. There’s this new hashtag popping up everywhere called #recycleyourperiodpad which don’t worry they are unused period pads because of a product that Poise is introducing. There is a difference between using Poise thin shaped pads and period pads. The answer is right in the name. There is a difference between pads and PERIOD pads. Period pads are used for just that; periods. Poise thin shaped pads are used for LBL. Now I know what you are thinking, what is LBL? Well, before I get into the actual DIY part of this project read about LBL below. Text has been taken from Linqia.
WHAT IS LBL?
• One in three women experience Light Bladder Leakage (LBL) – little leaks that can be triggered by everyday occurrences like coughing, sneezing, laughing and exercise.
• Weak pelvic floor muscles, pregnancy, childbirth and weight gain are just a few LBL contributors.
WHAT CAUSES LBL?
Just as no two women are alike, there’s no single reason that LBL happens. Some of the most common things that lead to uninvited leaks include:
• Physical changes from childbirth, pregnancy, hysterectomy or menopause
• Being overweight
• Complications from surgery, stroke, or chronic diseases like diabetes, multiple sclerosis (MS) or Parkinson’s disease
• Bladder or urinary tract infections
• Bladder irritants (certain foods and beverages)
HOW CAN I BEST MANAGE MY LBL?
Women deserve the best options for managing LBL. Whether you leak a little when you laugh, or sometimes have a sudden urge to go, Poise gives you one less thing to worry about any time of day or night. Our pads and liners are specifically designed for LBL, which makes them an easy choice for the 1 in 3 women with light bladder leaks.

POISE THIN-SHAPE PADS
Designed to move with your body, new Poise Thin-Shape pads feature Super Absorbent Material (SAM) and a Thin-Flex design for extraordinary protection that’s still 3x drier than period pads*† to help you take care of leaks with confidence.
*vs. leading regular size period products, where most needed
Above are pictures of the Poise thin shaped pads. I know of a few women who have used these and love them. They work so much better than period pads, and they wish that they discovered Poise earlier. I currently do not have LBL but like I stated above, I know women who do who were interviewed, but asked to have their names kept anonymous, and I don’t blame them because this can be an embarrassing issue to have.
Now that you’ve learned about Poise and LBL, let’s move on to this DIY project on how you can recycle those unused period pads instead of just throwing them out! Introducing my autumn table runner/placement mat. Don’t forget to click here in order to get your free sample!
First take an used period pad. I found a stencil of a leaf online because for some reason I have an issue free handing leaves. Use the stencil to cut out leaves from the unused pad. One huge thing to say is DO NOT remove the paper on the back that covers the sticky part of the pad, you’ll need them to be sticky later on. I was able to get two leaves out of each pad. Then I used the spray paint that is seen in the below pictures (the beige one) and since the pad is absorbent it absorbed the paint perfectly. The leaves needed two coats of this spray paint before I was able to paint on top. I used regular all purpose paint that you can find at Walmart or Michael’s. I used fall colors, browns, golds, reds, oranges, and yellows.
Now for the bottom of the table runner I sewed 5 pads together. Once that was done I took the spray paint seen above (textured metallic) and sprayed. These only needed one coat due to the color, however, if you want to add two coats that is fine. Just like with the leaf pads, make sure to keep the paper on the back of the pads because you will need the sticky’ness for later.
Now, it’s time to take the paper off the dried leaves and place them on the metallic brown table runner. I recommend placing them on the brown pads to see how you want them placed prior to sticking them on, as seen below.
Once you’re done adding the leaves take the paper off the back of the pads. Be careful and don’t worry if the leaves fall off because you can either stick them right back on or do what I did and sew the leaves on because believe it or not I’m planning on using this for this season! Now, why are we taking the paper off of the table runner part? Because do you see that placemat underneath? Well that will be the final addition to this table runner. You can actually use this as a placemat as well, but just think about if it gets dirty, you can’t clean it like a normal table runner/placemat.
And, drumroll please, VOILA! Introducing a DIY tablerunner/placemat from unused pads. Don’t forget to check out the hashtag #recycleyourperiodpad to see other projects. Also, most importantly, check out the Poise pads to help your LBL and get free samples!

Oh my goodness, by far your craft exceeds mine. I did a preschool butterfly anatomy chart using the pads for the wings. Yours is, well, ELEGANT! Great job. 🙂 Pinning it !
